For the eight year in a row, two physicians from Methodist Sports Medicine gave over 100 homeless men free foot exams, shoes and socks. Doctors David Porter and Jonathan Smerek continued the practice’s commitment to serving others through their work at the annual Our Hearts to Your Soles event at Wheeler Mission Ministries in downtown Indianapolis.
In addition, Indianapolis Colts Cornerback Darius Butler and nearly 20 Methodist Sports Medicine volunteers were on hand to distribute the new socks and shoes and serve meals to the men.
Our Hearts to Your Soles is part of a national event to distribute new and gently worn shoes to needy men, women and children. Since 2004, the organization has expanded and partnered with Soles4Souls and Red Wing Shoes to provide thousands of new shoes across the country. Proper foot health is an essential part of everyday life and important to an overall health maintenance program. Additional partners Dr. Comfort, a DJO Ortho Global Company and Finish Line donated shoes and socks or this year’s event in Indianapolis.
